There's something wrong in the world of skiing. And it's freestyle. It's dying. And there is someone to blame. FIS. These utter idiots are more or less putting a lid to evolution of the sport. The guys are complete utter morons. Look at skiing. The things generating the most interest is new school skiing. Flips, grabs, crazy spins and tricks. But instead of welcoming this and accepting it to gain a larger market appeal, FIS has decided to sit on it's scrawny little ass and do jack shit. A couple of examples. In moguls, you are NOT allowed to invert (flip), grabs count for practically no points, you're barely rewarded for really crazy shit and certain tricks you're just not allowed to do (a la 360 screaming seamen). This is just putting a cap on expansion of the sport and people aren't interested anymore. In a contraversial episode not too long ago, to quote Julia Smart (Mogul Magazine for SMS)this is what happened: "The men's event saw a number of big spills and upsets as well as a controversial disqualification. US Team member Alex Wilson of Buffalo, N.Y., was disqualified in the final dual of the day against Thony Hemery, when he threw a front flip off the bottom jump. After making a mistake early in the dual he knew Hemery would take the win, so entertained the crowd with a flip instead. Flips are illegal in FIS Mogul events and Wilson was disqualified, dropping from 2nd to last." It's this kind of crap that is limiting the sport. If FIS didn't have a rod rammed up it's ass, it'd realize this and put WAY less restrictions on atheletes and begin expansion. Acro is nearly dead. Moguls and aerials are still up and going but more events, spectator events, need to be introduced. I give credit to FIS for dual moguls but they need more things like slopestyle, quaterpipe, halfpipe and big air (off a table top, not a kicker). Or, as I would like to see it, a big ass spine followed by two HUGE tables then a massive quaterpipe. They should have this as a slopestyle event. That kind of thinking will advance skiing and I think FIS should embrace it. |
