I did this interview with Rory over email. He said it had to be "damn near the longest email I've ever written". Haha. You can now officialy call him played out. With interviews for FREEZE, RANT and sometime soon in Freeskier, he's a well exposed skier and he deserves it.

RANT: What kind of person do you see yourself as?

Rory:I am not very good at these self-reflecting questions but I am just a guy who likes to go out and ski and have fun. Mostly I prefer to ski alone or with a couple of my buds but never in a larger group.

RANT: What's a funny story about yourself that most people wouldn't know?

Rory: I did this same question in FREESKIER for a Plake's Picks so you will have to read that mag and get the most embarrasing/funny story. My second most funny story would be the weekend of the ski expo here in Boston. We were at this nightclub doing a premier of Global Storming and the photographer wanted to do a picture of all the pros there. So he told me to jump in the picture and then the marketing director of FREEZE pulled me out cuz she didn't know that I was supposed to be in there. She though I was just some dumbass trying to get in the picture. That was pretty embarassing, yet humbling.

RANT:Where do you live and how is it out there?

Rory: I go to boarding school up at Gould Academy near Sunday River. We get to ski everyday and it is sick. We have a huge halfpipe up there, a park that is going off, and some nice mogul runs. It is pretty fuckin cold besides that.

RANT: If you had the option of moving somewhere, where would it be and why?

Rory: I would move to Lake Tahoe cuz that is where I have always wanted to live. Or I would move to Whistler cuz it is always a 50% off sale in Canada (if you are an american).

RANT: Who did you look up to when you started skiing and how have they affected your skiing?

Rory: When I first started racing I was six and I did not really know the names of any World Cup racers so I always looked up to my coaches until I was like 14 because I thought they were the best in the World. By that time I was doing freestyle and I knew about Sergei and Jean-Luc and then they were the best. Now I don't really look up to anybody, but I respect their style and the way they ski. Like JP has sick style and I always study how he does certain things and Shane McConkey has style so I study that too and I try to mix them somewhat. I would say that my coaches have influenced my skiing the most because whenever I see a video of myself skiing bumps I always think of Joe who was my first freestyle coach.

RANT: Where do you plan on taking your skiing and how will it affect your life?

Rory: I hope to be competing in a wider variety of events like skier-x and big mountain. It looks like a lot of fun and those events are the events that take you places to see the world like the Rip Curl Heli Challenge in New Zealand. I am gonna keep doing what I do best though and that is park and pipe. I hope it will affect my life a lot and skiing will always be a part of my life even after my career is over. I hope to coach or be in the ski industry after I am done competing.

RANT: Who do you think will have the biggest impact on skiing in the next few years?

Rory: I think guys like Seth and Brad who show that you can mix big mountain skiing with park skiing will have the biggest impact over the next couple of years. Seth is hucking huge tricks now and he is doing them off backcountry kickers and 80 foot cliffs. I think for the fortunate few who can have access to this terrain, that is where it is going.

RANT: Which competitions will you be doing in the future?

Rory: I am planning on doing The Open and most of the events around New England again. I think I am going to wait to try and get into the X-Games or Gravity Games because those are some good skiers and I am not a great big air skier but more of a slopestyle skier.

RANT: What kind of crap of you gotten into with ski patrol?

Rory: I almost got my pass pulled for tucking a run last week. They give me a lot of shit but my roomate at school is a ski patroller so...I got the hookup.

RANT: Shouts to people? Sponsors? Plugs? Etc?

Rory: I guess just thanks to Spyder (Kent), Hart, Tecnica, and Smith for hooking me up. Also thanks to Micah at FREEZE cuz he is the man and has always been hookin me up. Tambo at Freeskier. And my mom.

We're hoping to see big things from this guy in the future.
