I've known Rex Thomas for a few years. He's actually a pretty cool guy. He was a funny guy to be around and he was always trying something stupid. Hell, I remember a point in time when I was throwing the same tricks that he was. But now Rex has truly come into his own and started to lay down some sick stuff.
Rex got into skiing mainly from his family taking him to the mountain on the weekends. From there he entered freestyle skiing where he did fairly well (won junior nats acro, did fairly well in bumps, forgot placing). He was doing fairly well until 2 years ago when he finally learnt how to back flip. From that point on he just went nuts. Now he's throwing ninety rolls, rodeo's, misties, 720's and all that other sick stuff you associate with pro's. Rex is on the verge of becoming pro now. On the D-team now, he spent most of his summer coaching, shooting and more or less fucking around on the slopes. |

"This summer was really fun. I spent most of the time on the Blackcomb glacier skiing. I helped around SMS, but I spent most of the time training with the D-team. I also went to shoot with Travis for Heavy Hitting and with Cheddar (Johnny D) and the guys over at Poor Boyz for 13. It was a fun summer."

You can see Rex during the credits of 13. Heavy Hitting's film Class isn't due out for a while but you are sure to see him in the mix. With plans to mainly take it easy for the next few years, you can count on seeing Rex around. |
"When I'm 25, I just want to be able to take it easy and not worry about money. I kinda just want to go around skiing and having fun. I want to be comfortable. ..... I think I'm at the point where I don't have to beat the bushes looking for sponsors. I want to go out, do some comps and let the sponsors come to me."
Rex was just recently dropped by Oakley. However when I last talked to him at the Vancouver Snow Show, he had just been picked up by the Arnette team who were putting a large leap of faith in him. |
 |
"What happened with Arnette was that I just called the team manager and said that I had shot with Heavy Hitting, would have a part in 13 and that I was on the D-team. And they took me, without even seeing any footage or pictures. I guess they figured that if I was in 13 and that, I must be pretty good. They put alot of faith in me."

Rex is currently sponsored by Rip Curl, Gabelle, Arnette and has this thing going on with TMC. He's a funny guy too. When asked if he could either have the power to fly, the power to change water to beer, or the power to make someone shit their pants at will, he proudly chose the power to make someone shit their pants. McDick's is the best fast food joint and, if for one day, he could either be and international spy, the president or a really hot dyke, he'd be a really hot dyke. Wise choises there. Adam Sandler would play him in a biographic movie and he thinks Golf is a beer chugging contest. He's also a bit of an oddity when it comes to his ultimate dream. If my ultimate dream came true, women would worship the ground I walk on, men would quiver in for of my name and I would rule the world with an iron grasp from which nobody escapes (more or less Saddam Hussein on a global scale, but with hot chicks at my feet and dick). |
"Man, my ultimate dream is to be 120 years old, good health and still be skiing, like, 3 or 4 days a week. No, seriously. There's even this guy who's something like 104 who does that at Tremblant. I read it in a magazine somewhere."
A skier to the core. Look out for this guy in the future. |
