Over the years Anthony Boronowski has slowly progressed from a good skier to a great one. He started skiing like most, with the family on weekends then moved to the Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Club. Through the club I met Anthony. He is probably the most solid and consistent bump skier in the whole club. To top it off, he's probably the best skier period in the club. Except for the coaches. He won Junior Nationals 2 years ago and placed third at the last one. He's coached at High North summer ski camp and shot with Poor Boyz for 13.

"I guess that what happened was my dad got a place out in Black Tusk and my folks started bringing me out there now and then to just relax and I started to really get into skiing from there."

Probably one of the leading forces of "new school" skiing in Whistler, Anthony is already talking of organizing some kind of freeski event when Junior Nationals come to Blackcomb this year.

"Dude, what I want to do is get like a sign that says 'Big Air comp today. Meet in Xighy's Meadow.' and once we get there build a few kickers and have everyone huck themselves. ... Yah, doesn't matter, halfpipe, slopestyle, big air. Long as everyone is going out and going big."

Hell, he's already got the soundtrack planned for a video he wants to make over the winter (mostly punk and hip hop). He's also just recently got a bunch of new sponsors. Wave Rave, Nixon watches, K2 skis, Spy optics, Powerbar and North Shore Ski and Board. It's been a good year and he promises to have an even better one coming.

"Dude, this year is gonna go off. I learnt a ton of shit over the summer and I've still got a few tricks up my sleeve that you haven't seen. (What are they?) You just wait and see. It's gonna be sick though. Yeah yeah."

He's also a cool down to earth guy with plans for the future.

"When I graduate (this year) I think I'm gonna do a trimester at SFU or something just so they can't turn me down later then travel around Canada and the States for a while. Where ever skiing takes me. I want to start doing some bigger contests this year and in the future."

The RANT crew is scheming to work our way down to Vail this year to do the US Open. One our friends (a boarder with an invite to the Winter X-Games) is planning on poaching the winter X-games big air jump on skis. I'm gonna try to convince him to try to convince the X-games organizers to let us compete as well. That'd be sick. Probably wouldn't happen though.

"We gotta do the open this year. We'll fly there, drive or something. Then we can find somewhere cheap to bunk up, or the back of a car even. That'd be a crazy road trip. We gotta do something like that this year."

He's into a bunch of other sports as well. At one point he was really into biking and was doing super good at that, but he's toned down a bit on the biking recently. He's skates alot too, but because of a few injuries (just rolled his ankle a little while back) he's gonna cut back on that too. Whatever. He's just coming into his own now and will soon be breaking the scene.
